序數詞前是否用定冠詞的區別

 在通常情況下，序數詞前要用定冠詞。如：

May is the fifth month. 5月是一年的第5個月。

That was the third time he had entered the house. 那是他第3次進入這座房子。

In came the first runner, closely followed by the second. 第一位賽跑者進來了，緊跟著第二位也進來了。

但是，如果序數詞前使用了物主代詞或所有格之類的脩飾語，則不能使用定冠詞。如：

That would be his third wife. 那也許是他的第3個妻子了。

I got my first bicycle two years ago. 兩年前我買了第一輛自行車。

另外，如果不是表示特定的第幾，而是表示數量或序數的增加，則其前用不定冠詞。如：

We’ll have to do it a second time. 我們得再做一次。

Shall I ask her a third time? 我還要問她一次嗎?
